The Only Moving Checklist You’ll Need

March 3, 2022

When it comes to moving house, it can get overwhelming fast. There are so many things that you need to organise and remember, that it’s no surprise that things are often forgotten. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Instead of just winging it and hoping for the best, follow a comprehensive checklist to ensure that you remember all of the important tasks. Take a look here at the only moving checklist you’ll need.

1. Organise Your Removalists

When considering removalists, you have to consider all your different possessions. Therefore, it’s important to make sure you organise your removalists well ahead of time.

Furniture needs the necessary packaging materials, especially antique furniture. The furniture also needs to be stored correctly and safely to ensure the maximum level of security. A
storage facility may also be important to consider after the settlement date of your existing property. The number of trips to move into the new property then also needs considering. We provide all of these services as well as specialising in the removal of antique furniture and pianos. We also offer our office removals and relocations and schools of all sizes.

Make sure you organise your removalists well ahead of time. The sooner you have them locked in the better as removalists tend to get booked up fairly fast, especially if you leave it till the last minute. The earlier you book the better your chances are of securing yourself a fantastic removalist company to help you move your belongings.

2. Declutter Your Belongings

We all tend to accumulate belongings that we don’t necessarily need or want. Instead of packing all of these up, take this opportunity to sort through your stuff as you are packing. Get rid of anything you don’t want, need or use. You can either donate it, sell it or throw it away if it’s no longer in great condition.

3. Prepare For A Deep Clean Or Book In A Cleaner

Bond cleaning is perhaps one of the least favoured tasks when it comes to moving home. Every person who rents a property has to thoroughly clean it according to the contract with their real estate agent and through law. This can include thoroughly cleaning carpets and every single room in the property to ensure you have your bond refunded.

If deep cleaning your old home isn’t something you want to deal with after you have moved, be sure to book a bond cleaner to do it for you. A deep clean involves house cleaning like carpet steam cleaning or stain removal, window cleaning, disinfecting cupboards or drawers or even behind appliances. A specialised bond cleaner can help with this if it’s too much of a task to do by yourself.

4. Sort Out Your Packing Supplies

We know that packing is tedious and time-consuming. However, it can go a lot smoother and be a lot more pleasant if you have all of your supplies organised well ahead of time. Using the right materials is a necessity. Strong tape for shipping can help to secure less rigid boxes. Adding the correct labels to boxes is important if something is potentially hazardous or has fragile contents.

Wrapping items separately with the right cushioning material can also help the more fragile possessions. Other useful supplies can include packing paper, moving blankets and durable cardboard boxes to ensure all belongings are safe during the moving process. Locks for any valuables may also be useful if you are anxious about moving particularly expensive or sentimental belongings.

Get together a collection of boxes, packing tape, bags and filler to protect your delicate items so that you aren’t running around on moving day trying to find more boxes for your stuff.

5. Get Your Utilities And Extras Signed Up Or Transferred

Take an evening before your move to organise the transfer or signup of your new utilities and services. It’s important to get these done before you move as it often takes a few days as a minimum to connect power, gas and internet. The sooner you have these organised the less you have to worry about on your moving day.

6. Pack An Essentials Bag

Your essentials bag or box can contain all the everyday items you may need when you first move into your new house. You don’t want the first day in the new house to be spent rummaging through boxes packed away trying to find the essentials. This bag or box could be in the car with you, so you know exactly where it is.

If tight on space, make sure it’s the last box loaded into the removals van so it can get unloaded first before everything else. Everyone's bag or box will be different, but some important aspects could be toilet paper, washing up liquid, cutlery and plates and toiletries. The important documents can be stored here too for quick and easy access.

7. Organising Childcare Or Pet Sitting

Moving with children or pets can be difficult when moving house. Arranging for childcare on the days that you’re moving or asking a family member or friend to look after your pet for a couple of days can help to streamline the moving process slightly. This way the priority can be to move and settle into your new house without having to keep the children entertained or keeping pets out of the way.
